FAQ you!

Journal Entry: Wed Sep 8, 2004, 10:00 PM
A FAQ for my art n' stuff. All the cool people were doing it!

:bulletred: :bulletred: :bulletred:

1. When did you start drawing?
Lesse, about the age of five or six, I think. I drew at my Daycare Center because it made me cool. After that, I grew to love it and I just couldn't stop.

2. What school are you in now?
Right now I'm attending the San Francisco Academy of Art University, and I'm majoring in Visual Development.

3. So what's your education been like?
I've been taking basic art classes since high school. When I came to the Academy I took the fundamental classes such as Color and Design, Analysis of Form, Perspective, and many Figure Drawing classes. When I started concentrating more on my major I took a few animation classes (both 2D and 3D) then leaned more toward Illustration and Digital Painting classes, with stuff in between like Character Design, Creature Design, Layout, Acting for Animators, Advanced Perspective for Film, Traditional Painting, and all sorts of fun stuff. I've been at the Academy for 4 years and graduate this May.

4. What materials do you use to draw/color?
Paper - Mostly Strathmore sketchbook paper, and occasionally bristol board. I sometimes start with scratch paper, then transfer the line art to the good paper.
Drawing - Col Erase pencils are my best friend. I usually use red or blue for sketching.
Inking - Sakura Micron Pens, sizes 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, and 0.8.
Coloring - A mix of Prismacolor Markers, Tria Markers, and Prismacolor Pencils and Gouache. For digital I use Photoshop CS2, Painter, and occasionally Open Canvas.

5. Hey, that stuff sounds cool! Where can I get those pens/markers/pencils?
You can them at most art stores, like Aaron Brothers, Sterling Art, or Utrecht Art. Or just go look online for them.

6. Do you do requests/commissions/art trades?
For requests and commission, NO. Sorry, but due to my busy schedule, it takes long enough to do art just for myself. I'm also the world's worst procrastinator, so it would take me forever even if I had the free time. Maybe I'll do an art trade, but usually it's only with close friends. Trades also depend on my schedule.

7. Can I use your art for wallpapers/LJ icons/web graphics?
Anybody's welcome to make LJ icons. So far, icons are the only thing I haven't had any problems with. And if you're feeling generous, I wouldn't mind if you credited my name in the Icon Keywords. ^^
As for anything else, the answer is no.

8. Can I post your fanart on my site?
No. I used to be fine with this (which is why you can still see some of my old DBZ art on various sites), but it got so out of hand and people were stealing my work left and right, so I no longer allow it. I would like my art to remain on my DA gallery (and any other place I choose to post it) only.

9. How did you learn anatomy/where do you get your references?
The best way to learn is to take as many life drawing classes as you can. I've taken numerous Anatomy and Life Drawing classes, both that study the nude form and clothed/costumed figures, and so far they prove to work best. Once you learn the way the body looks and works, you can do things from memory.

10. Will you teach me/give me tips/tell me the secret to drawing well?
It's surprising how many people think there is some elusive secret to drawing. There is no secret to drawing! It takes years of practice and dedication! There is no shortcut I can give you that will magically turn you into a great artist. And no I will not teach anyone, because I feel it is physically impossible to teach someone to draw if they are not sitting directly in front of me. The only other advice I can give you is to listen to your art teachers. Trust me, most of them know what they're talking about.

11. Will you design a tattoo for me?
Nope, sorry.

12. I have a club on DA! Will you join it?
Sorry, but I have made it my personal policy not to join any clubs, and I have my reasons why. Plus it just seems kinda pointless posting my art twice - once in my gallery and once in the club. It's just a hassle to keep track of.

13. Damn, why do you act stuck up?
I'm not stuck up, really I'm not! And I certainly don't mean to behave in such a way. It's just that getting so many requests can wear on your nerves a little bit, especially when I'm stuck at school and doing homework and trying to carry a part time job. I love all you guys! You're the people who keep me on this site (well, at least the sane people) XD, but I just can't contribute to all of your demands. It gets tiring, don'tcha know.

14. Hey, I sent you a DA note like 3 months ago! Why haven't you replied?
I get so many freaking notes I get backed up so easily. Then add in the fact that I'm a gawd-awful procrastinator, it usually takes me forever. Usually if I have some free time, like an hour or three, I'll sit down and answer a big clump of notes.

15. All you post is fanart! Why don't you draw original stuff?!
I do draw original stuff. I just don't post it, that's all. The reason is because my art gets stolen all the time. Damn art thieves. If they are going to try and take something, I would prefer just keeping my original art away from all that. I save my original work for my portfolio and school projects.

16. Can I color a drawing of yours?
Of course you can! I love getting gifts! If you want to post it here on DA, that's cool too. All I ask is that I receive credit for the line art.

17. Do you have an AIM screen name?
My AIM is set to personal friends only. Without that setting, I get too many random people IMing me. And please do not request to be added to my list.

18. You often draw Gargoyles characters from TGS. What is this "TGS" you speak of?
TGS is The Gargoyles Saga, the fans' continuation of the TV series. The stories are based on Greg Weisman's "master plan" that involved the original Gargoyles series and three spin-offs (Pendragon, Dark Ages, and Timedancer). I personally believe it is some of the best fanfiction ever written.

19. Why do you spell D*sney with a "*"?
This started out as an inside joke between me and my friends. We don't know who first did it, or even why we do it. But to me, it's like Tinkerbell putting a sparkle where the "i" should be.

20. Why don't you make a tutorial for your art?
I'm incapable of making a tutorial. *is ashamed* I just don't know how.

21. Do you work at D*sneyland?
Yes, I work as a "Casual Temporary" at D*sneyland in Southern California (NOT FLORIDA!), during peak seasons like summer and Christmas. I work all 9 rides in Fantasyland Attractions and occasionally do guest control for parades and firework shows. I do NOT work in the College Program or any kind of Internship program, so don't ask me about those, cause I don't know jack squat about them.

22. Hey, can you help me get a job at D*sneyland, like as a character?
NO. No no no, please do not ask me this. For one, I don't even work in that department. Two, no amount of advice I give you will help you get that job. The only way to do it is to attend a Face Character Audition yourself [link] and see if they like you. But I should warn you, D*sney holds their standards ridiculously high and out of the hundreds of people that attend each audition, only a small handful are chosen. And please remember being a character is NOT the only option. In fact, I think their jobs are overrated. For any other job, look through their site [link] and you apply at the Team Disney Anaheim office building behind the park off the 5 freeway.

23. Hey did you know your art is being used on the Facebook Bumpersticker application?
Yes I do. And no I did not give them permission. But I've tried getting them to remove it with no luck and I've given up because it's more trouble than its worth. If you wanna try getting it removed for me please be my guest, I would certainly appreciate the effort.

And there you go. :D More questions will most likely be added later in the future.

^-^ Cool quiz. It basically answers all the questions my mind could ever concoct! 0.0
I'm actually glad you lean more towards traditional media. It inspires me to want to work with my prismas and colored pencils more
